Revised Mailbox & Post Standards
Based on feedback from homeowners like you, the HGHOA Board updated the Architectural Standards a few months ago regarding mailboxes and mailbox posts. These changes will help ensure the mailbox and post appearance continues to be maintained in the same manner as installed by the developer within the various phases of Harrington Grove.
The HGHOA Board is informing you of this information because it will require some homeowners to make changes or become compliant in the near future. Our deadline for homeowners to conform is Monday, July 31, 2006. Here are the requirements:
- Mailbox posts are to be made of wood only, and follow the original design of the developer of the given Harrington Grove subdivision.
- Posts will be white in color. The only temporary exception is previously allowed gray or house trim color posts. These posts must be painted white when they need repainting, repair or replacement.
- The house number should be affixed to the mailbox post, and not to the metal mailbox, which is consistent with the developer's original installation.
- Mailbox will be metal, black in color, and without decorative accents or designs; standard "T2" (medium rural route) size, measuring about 8.25" wide, 11" high, 21" deep; no other style or color is authorized.

Mailbox post and box maintenance: There are homes with posts and/or boxes which do not meet the original style and uniformity set by the original developer and those of which have fallen into poor condition. If your mailbox post and/or box fall into this category, it needs to be repaired or replaced so the appearance provides a consistent and positive impression within the Harrington Grove neighborhood. Said maintenance needs to take place no later than Monday, July 31, 2006. Homes located in the "Vale" and "Village" subdivisions may continue to use the existing style installed by the developer as long as the posts remain serviceable; however when it needs to be replaced due to disrepair, they are required to be transitioned to the Harrington Grove style (shown in the pictures) to allow for consistency throughout the Harrington Grove neighborhood.
If you need a new post, here are at least two options:
- Rodney's Sign Company (Apex), Phone: 362-9669; post is pressure treated, not painted; $155.00 plus tax (price subject to change); mailbox not provided.
- Dana Parks, Harrington Grove Resident (The Oaks), Phone: 676-7508; $75.00 (price subject to change); mailbox not provided.
After July 31, 2006, we will notify homeowners with non-compliant mailboxes. However, our goal is to avoid assessing monetary fines so we look forward to your full cooperation.
